This time we will discuss creamy desserts. However, it will be combined with the fresh taste of raspberry jam. Can you imagine how creamy this dessert is? Of course, it will be delicious. The name of this dessert is Sponge Kisses. Have you ever heard of it?
Making this is very easy at home. With a preparation time of 15 minutes and a cooking time of 30 minutes. The ingredients for making this dessert are available in supermarkets, such as all-purpose flour baking powder, raspberry jam, and others. Serve this while relaxing with family and friends.

Description of This Cake
Even though the name sounds simple, Sponge Kisses has a rich history in the culinary world, especially in European countries and Commonwealth regions such as Australia. The term “kisses” refers to their small, cute, and loving forms, like sweet kisses. In the beginning, making Sponge Kisses was often to celebrate special occasions, such as tea parties, birthdays, or family celebrations.
This cake usually consists of two small layers of soft sponge cake. It also has a light, hollow texture, which comes from a dough that relies on beating eggs and sugar until perfectly fluffy. The filling between the two cake layers is the most interesting part, usually fresh whipped cream and strawberry jam. The final touch is a sprinkling of powdered sugar on top, to add visual elegance.

Tips for Making This Cake
Making this cake requires attention to detail. Here are tips that can help you create this cake with perfect results.
Use High-Quality Ingredients
Because eggs are the main ingredient, use fresh eggs to give the best results. Choose a finer sugar that dissolves more easily and helps create a light texture. Choose good quality filling ingredients to add flavor and aroma.
Beat Eggs Perfectly
For lighter results, beat the egg whites until stiff before adding to the mixture. Start on low speed to mix in the sugar, then increase to high speed until the mixture is fluffy and pale in color. Over-beating can cause the dough to lose air, so it doesn’t come out fluffy.
Use a Spoon or Piping Bag to Shape the Cake
Use a piping bag or spoon to ensure the cake is a uniform size so it bakes evenly. Leave space between the cakes in the pan so they don’t stick together when rising.

Bake at the Right Temperature
Don’t bake for too long so it doesn’t dry out and don’t open the oven door while baking so the dough doesn’t shrink.
Let Cake Cool Before Filling
Once cooked, let the cake cool completely on a cooling rack before adding the filling. Filling a cake that is still warm can cause the cream to melt.
Proper Storage
Enjoy this cake best on the same day to maintain its texture. If you don’t use it straight away, store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator to keep it soft.
The Texture of Sponge Kisses
This cake is famous for its soft and light texture, making it a dessert that many people like. The following is a description of the texture of this cake.
Soft and Light
This cake has a soft and light texture like foam (sponge). This is because it comes from maximally beating the eggs, so there is a lot of air in the mixture. The well-risen dough gives a light sensation when bitten as if it were melting in the mouth.

A Little Chewy
The inside of the cake has a little elasticity because of the proteins in the eggs and flour, which play a role in forming the structure of the cake. Even though it is light, this cake does not crumble easily when we hold it or bite it.
Creamy Filling
When filled with whipped cream, jam, or other fillings, the soft texture of the cake blends perfectly with the creamy or soft filling. This creates a contrast between the texture of the cake and the filling, making it taste even more delicious.
Another Variant of Sponge Kisses
This little cake is versatile and easy to modify. You can make other variations by adding different ingredients, fillings, or flavors. Here are some interesting variants.
Chocolate
You can add cocoa powder to the mixture to create a rich chocolate taste. Or, you can also add chocolate chunks for additional texture.

Peanut Butter
For a more varied filling, you can combine peanut butter with chocolate for an appetizing taste.
Pandan
A more unique variation, use pandan extract for a typical Southeast Asian taste and attractive color. Meanwhile, for the filling, you can use cream cheese or pandan jam.
The Specialties of This Cake
This type of cake is attractive in terms of taste, visuals, and texture. Here are some of the features that make this cake so special and many people love it.

With its soft texture and rich taste, this dessert is ideal for all occasions, from parties to relaxing moments at home.

An Overview of This Dessert
Tiramisu Truffles are a mini version of tiramisu, we form the main ingredients such as mascarpone, coffee, and cocoa powder into small balls. Usually, mix these ingredients with cake crumbs, such as ladyfinger biscuits or sponge cake, to give the right texture. Once the mixture forms a ball, then coat the dessert with cocoa powder, melted chocolate, or even cake crumbs to give it an attractive appearance while adding layers of flavor.
The main ingredients for this dessert are espresso coffee, ladyfinger biscuits, cocoa powder, chocolate, and others. There are several steps in making this dessert, namely preparing the dough, forming the truffles, and serving.

Tips for Making This Dessert
Here are some important tips to make this dessert delicious and have the perfect texture.
Choose Quality Ingredients
Use fresh espresso coffee or strong-brewed instant coffee for a classic tiramisu taste. Avoid coffee that is too weak for a richer taste. Choosing biscuits using ladyfinger is the best choice to give the typical tiramisu taste. If it’s hard to find ladyfinger, graham crackers or sponge cake could be another option.
Pay Attention to the Consistency of the Dough
The truffle dough should be sticky enough to shape, but not too wet. Add the biscuit crumbs gradually to get the right consistency. If the dough is too soft, store it in the refrigerator for a while before forming balls.
Use Varied Toppings
For a classic taste, coat tiramisu truffles with cocoa powder. You can try other toppings such as melted dark chocolate, grated coconut, chopped nuts, or chocolate chips for variations in taste and texture. Make sure to add the topping after the truffles have formed a ball so sticks well.

Cool Well
After forming the balls, then chill in the refrigerator for at least 1-2 hours before serving. This helps strengthen the texture and improve the taste. If using melted chocolate as a coating let the truffles harden in the refrigerator for a perfect outer layer.
Taste Test During the Process
Taste the mixture to ensure a balance of flavors according to your taste.
Serving and Storage
Serve this dessert cold to maintain the creamy texture and fresh taste. Store this dessert in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to five days, or freeze if you want to keep it longer.

The Texture of Tiramisu Truffles
The following is an explanation of the texture of this dessert.
outer Layer is Smooth and Soft
Cocoa powder as the outer layer has a thin, smooth, and slightly dusty texture, giving a classic impression. If it’s with melted chocolate, the outer layer gives a crunchy sensation when bitten, especially if the chocolate is frozen in the refrigerator. Toppings like chopped nuts, shredded coconut, or chocolate chips add a textural element, giving contrast to the soft inside.
Soft, Dense, Chewy Main Dough
The inside of this dessert has a soft texture that melts in the mouth, if you use mascarpone or cream cheese. Because the dough contains ladyfinger biscuit crumbs or other alternatives, the texture is not completely smooth, but rather dense but still soft. Biscuit crumbs absorb coffee liquid, giving a chewy sensation.

Unique Combination
When you eat this dessert it will give you a complex textural experience. The first bite feels the smooth, crunchy, or textured outer layer. The inside immediately feels soft and creamy, with a hint of chewiness from the biscuit crumbs.
Other Variants of Tiramisu Truffles
Here are some ideas for variants of this dessert.
Vanilla
Try replacing the coffee with vanilla extract for a lighter, sweeter taste. Then, coat the outside with powdered sugar or grated white chocolate.
Caramel
For this variant, you can add caramel to the mixture. Then, coat with caramelized almonds or caramel flakes.

Matcha
For a more unique variant, you can mix matcha powder into the mixture. Coat the outside with matcha powder for a unique taste that is fresh and slightly bitter.

History of Stroopwafels
Ever heard of stroopwafels? They’re these super delicious, thin, round waffles filled with sweet, sticky syrup. Think of them as a Dutch version of a cookie sandwich.

Stroopwafels originated in the Dutch city of Gouda in the 18th century. Originally, they were made using leftover crumbs from baking other pastries. The name “stroopwafel” literally means “syrup waffle,” reflecting the sweet, sticky syrup filling that is the hallmark of this beloved Dutch treat. Interestingly, the tradition of placing a stroopwafel on top of a hot cup of coffee or tea helps warm and soften the syrup inside, making it even more delicious. Some people prefer them cold and chewy, others prefer them warm and slightly brittle.
Stroopwafels are a Dutch treat that is very popular both inside and outside the Netherlands. They are thin round waffles, filled with syrup that has a hint of cinnamon. They are very addictive! When a Dutchman wants to charm a foreigner, the best gift to bring is a box of these syrup-filled waffles.

Want to make your own? It’s pretty easy! You can find the recipe online, and it’s not too complicated.
Fun fact: The name “stroopwafel” literally means “syrup waffle” in Dutch. There are two well-known types of syrup in the Netherlands: “Schenkstroop” ‘Schenkstroop’ is a thick, sticky sugar syrup with the color of caramel. and “appelstroop” ‘Apple syrup’ is -in short- made from apples and is too thick to pour. Although both varieties are thicker, the first you can pour, the second is more for spreading. Stroopwafels are usually served with coffee or tea. Some people like them cold and chewy, while others prefer them warm and slightly brittle. So, next time you’re craving something sweet and delicious, give stroopwafels a try! You won’t be disappointed.
Ingredients of Homemade Stroopwafels
Waffle Dough

- Milk: Warm milk helps activate the yeast and provides moisture to the dough. The milk mustn’t be too hot, as excessive heat can kill the yeast.
- Instant Dry Yeast: is a leavening agent that helps the dough rise and become airy. It doesn’t need to be dissolved in water before use, which makes it convenient for dough recipes.
- Unsalted Butter: adds richness and a tender texture to the dough. It also helps with flavor and creates a soft, pliable dough.
- Eggs: Eggs contribute to the structure of the dough, adding moisture and richness. Using eggs at room temperature ensures they incorporate more evenly into the dough.
- Granulated Sugar: Sugar sweetens the dough and also helps with the browning process during baking. It contributes to the overall flavor and texture.
- All-purpose Flour: provides structure to the dough. The amount used affects the texture; too little flour can make the dough too sticky, while too much can make it dry.
- Cinnamon Powder: adds a warm, aromatic flavor that complements the caramel filling and enhances the overall taste of the stroopwafels.
- Salt: Enhances the flavors of the other ingredients and balances the sweetness, making the dough more flavorful.

Caramel Filling
Caramel filling is a classic component of many desserts, adding a rich, sweet, and slightly bitter flavor
- Granulated Sugar: This is the base ingredient for the caramel. When heated, it melts and caramelizes, creating the signature golden-brown color and sweet flavor.
- Heavy Cream: Adding heavy cream to the caramel helps to soften the texture, making it smoother and more palatable. It also adds a touch of richness and creaminess.
- Unsalted Butter: Butter adds a buttery flavor and helps to create a smoother, more cohesive caramel.
- Sea Salt: A pinch of sea salt balances the sweetness of the caramel, enhancing the overall flavor profile.
How to Make Homemade Stroopwafels
the Caramel Filling
Begin by heating the granulated sugar in a saucepan over high heat. Stir constantly to ensure even melting and prevent burning.

Once the sugar has melted into a thick, golden-brown caramel, carefully add the unsalted butter. Stir continuously until the butter has melted and combined with the caramel.
Continue cooking the caramel for about 1 minute without stirring. This allows the caramel to develop its rich flavor and texture.
Gradually add the heavy cream, stirring slowly and carefully to prevent the caramel from seizing up.
Once the cream has been fully incorporated, bring the mixture to a boil. Continue to cook for 1 minute, stirring occasionally.
Remove the pan from the heat and stir in the sea salt. Let the caramel sauce cool completely before using.
the Waffle Dough

Combine the warm milk with the instant dry yeast in a large mixing bowl. Mix well to activate the yeast.
Then, add the melted butter, eggs, and sugar to the yeast mixture. Beat until the ingredients combine each other.
Next, sift the flour, cinnamon powder, and salt into the bowl. Beat again until the dry ingredients and the wet ingredients are incorporated together.

Transfer the dough to a working surface and knead a few times to develop the gluten. Form the dough into a ball, cover it with plastic wrap, and let it rest in a warm place for about 1 hour, allowing it to rise.

Cooking the Stroopwafels
After that, divide the risen dough into 24 equal pieces, each about ⅛ of the dough.
Roll each piece of dough into a ball, then flatten it slightly while Preheat your waffle iron to medium heat.

Place one flattened dough ball onto the preheated waffle iron. Close the iron and cook for about 3 minutes or until golden brown. Flip the waffle halfway through cooking for even browning.
Remove the cooked waffle from the waffle iron and immediately spread a layer of caramel filling on one half of the waffle.

Place another waffle on top of the half with caramel, creating a sandwich. Lastly, cool the assembled stroopwafels on a cooling rack before serving. If you want to save more, then place them into an air-tight container to make it keep crispy.
Enjoy your delicious homemade stroopwafels! These crispy waffles filled with sweet caramel are a delightful treat that can be enjoyed any time of day.
